TOUR SUMMARY

Discover the timeless charm of Oman, a land where ancient trading traditions, magnificent forts, traditional souks and rugged mountain ranges meet the golden sands of the Arabian Desert and the turquoise waters of the Gulf of Oman. This thoughtfully curated journey offers an authentic introduction to the Sultanate, combining cultural discovery, scenic drives, traditional villages and memorable encounters with nature.

Begin in Muscat, Oman's elegant capital, where grand architecture and historic waterfront neighbourhoods reflect the country's rich maritime heritage. Wander through the lively Muttrah Souq, admire the impressive Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque and explore Old Muscat, with its historic forts and royal landmarks.

Travel inland to Nizwa, once an important centre of Omani learning, commerce and religious life. Explore its imposing fort, browse the traditional souq and discover the craftsmanship and trading customs that continue to shape local life. Continue through the country's historic heartland to Jabrin Castle and Bahla Fort, where defensive architecture and centuries-old traditions tell stories of Oman's past.

The journey then rises into the dramatic landscapes of the Al Hajar Mountains. Experience the cooler highlands of Jebel Akhdar, with its deep valleys, terraced gardens and spectacular mountain views. From the mountains, venture towards the eastern desert, where the immense dunes of Wahiba Sands create a striking landscape of shifting gold and amber. Enjoy a memorable desert sunset and spend a night at a desert camp beneath the vast Arabian sky.

Oman's coastal heritage comes alive in Sur, a historic maritime town known for its traditional dhow-building heritage. Explore the harbour and old waterfront, with an optional evening visit to Ras Al Jinz Turtle Reserve, where nesting turtles may be observed under suitable conditions and subject to seasonal activity.

On the return journey to Muscat, discover the natural beauty of Oman's eastern coastline. Visit the remarkable Bimmah Sinkhole and, weather and fitness permitting, enjoy an excursion into Wadi Shab, where dramatic cliffs, clear pools and lush pockets of vegetation offer a refreshing contrast to the desert.

This journey brings together the essential experiences of Oman: cultural landmarks, historic fortifications, traditional markets, mountain scenery, desert hospitality and a beautiful coastline. Travelling by road allows you to appreciate the changing landscapes and the everyday life of the country at your own pace.
